Question 1051013: Could someone please help me understand this:
You are asked to leverage linear regression to find some predicted values. Based on the given values of -1, 1, 2, 3 and 5 and the corresponding y values, you get the linear regression equation as y ˆ=3x+1.
Would you feel comfortable to find the predicted value of y for x = 100 using this equation? Why or why not?
Thank you for any help!

Answer by Fombitz(32388)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You build a model based on the information you're given.
So if your x value lies between -1 and 5, it should be pretty close to the real value.
However for values less that -1 and greater than 5, you really have no information about how the function behaves.
The value of x=100 is really far away from the region where your function is linearized.
I would have no confidence in a solution that far away.
