Question 1050784: Do you favor the college building a swimming pool?
Class | Yes | No | No Opinion
Freshman | 15 | 8 | 6
Sophomores | 25 | 3 | 2
Total Students = 59
Total Freshman = 29
Total Sophomores = 30
Total Yes = 40
Total No = 11
Total No Opinion = 8
a. The student who has no opinion = 8/59
b. The student who is a freshman = 29/59 or is against the issue = 11/59
= 29/59 + 11/59 = 40/59
c. The student is a sophomore = 30/59 or favors the issue = 40/59.
= 30/59 + 40/59 = 70/59
I got (a) correct but (b) and (c) are incorrect. I greatly appreciate anyone who can help me understand what I am doing wrong.

Hi
This is a better look:
Class | Yes | No | No Op Total
Freshman | 15 | 8 | 6 29
Sophomores | 25 | 3 | 2 30
Total 40 11 8 59

a. The student who has no opinion = 8/59 Good Work
b. The student who is a freshman = 29/59 0r is against the issue = 11/59
Need to Know: P(A 0r B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A and B)
P(F or NO) = 29/59 + 11/59 = 32/59
c. The student is a sophomore = 30/59 or favors the issue = 40/59.
P(S 0r YES) = 30/59 + 40/59 - 25/59 = 45/59
