Cage the tiger first. This can be done in 3 ways. Now cage either the monkey or the koala next. This can be done in two ways. (The monkey or the koala cannot be joined with the tiger.) Now cage the (third) remaining animal, which can be done again in 2 ways. (The monkey and the koala can be joined together.)
Therefore there are 3*2*2 = 12 ways you can put a tiger, a monkey, and a koala into these cages so that no animal gets eaten.
