Question 1030627: We would like to perform a two-tailed hypothesis test about mean at significance level of 0.05. The test statistic is already calculated for us, and the value is 2.1. We know that there are 25 observations in the random sample. The population is normally distributed, but the population standard deviation is unknown. What is the P-value? Do we have sufficient evidence to reject the null hypothesis? Why? Please show work.
Answer by rothauserc(4718)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
:
test statistic = + or - 2.1, this is a t-statistic because we do not know the population standard deviation
:
degrees of freedom(D.F.) = 25-1 = 24
:
For 24 D.F. and the given test statistic we get 0.025
:
The p-value = 0.025 + 0.025 = 0.05
:
Because the p-value of 0.05 = 0.05 at the 95% significance level, we do not have enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis.
:
note that the p-value has to be less than 0.05 at the 95% significance level in order to reject the null hypothesis
