Question 1027778: When plotted on the same graph, a distribution with a mean of 60 and a standard deviation of 5 will look more spread out than a distribution with a mean of 50 and standard deviation of 10. True or False? Please explain answer.

False. A mean of 60 with SD of 5 will have less variation than a mean of 50 with SD of 10, and so values in the former will be on the average closer to the mean of 60, hence will look narrower. Also, the coefficient of variation of the first distribution is 0.0833, whereas the the second distribution is 0.2. Thus the 2nd distribution has greater variation in values, hence looking more spread out.
