Question 1027268: Clarice has 7 new CDs; 3 are classical music and the rest are pop music. If she randomly grabs 3 CDs to listen to on her way to school, what is the probability that she will select only classical music?
Answer by purpleoj(8) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
On her first choice, she has 7 CDs to choose from, and 3 are classical. Therefore, the chance of choosing a classical CD is 3 out of 7.
On her second choice, she has only 6 to choose from, and only 2 are classical. Therefore, the chance of choosing a classical CD is now 2 out of 6, or 1 out of 3.
On her third and final choice, she has only 5 to choose from, and only 1 is a classical CD. Therefore the chance of choosing a classical CD is 1 out of 5.
Now, we multiply all of these together:
and get
She will choose all classical music 1 out of 35 times.
