Question 1018837: A medical researcher is concerned with the effectiveness of a new drug alleviating stomach pain.
What null hypothesis is he testing if the commits a type I error when he erroneously says that the drug is effective?

The null hypothesis is that the new drug is no more effective than any other treatment for stomach pain.
the alternative hypothesis may be that it is different or that it is better.
A type I error is to reject Ho when Ho is true.
In other words, the researcher concludes that the drug is effective when it is not. Or, in a 2-tailed test, it is different when it is not.
