Question 288243: The Boxerville city council must pay three companies to have street lamps put on the 4th Street Bridge. Company M will make the lamps for $25 per lamp, plus $125 fee. Company S will install the lamps for $40 per lamp, plus $100 fee. Company P will paintthe lamps for $15 per lamp, plus a $50 fee.
Using n as the number of lamps, write a polynomial for each company that tells you how much the company will charge.
Company M? = 25n + 125?
Company S? = 40n + 100?
Company P? = 15n + 50?
find the sum of the three polynomials? = 80n + 275?
Use the sum you found to write an inequality that shows that the city council can pay no more than $3,500 total. 80n - 3225
How many street lamps can they put on the bridge for $3,500?
How many lamps can they put on the bridge for 4,300?

Question 288344: Problem is:
%288%29%2F%282m%2B1%29-%281%29%2F%28m-2%29=%285%29%2F%282m%2B1%29
I've tried several ways, but can't come up with an answer that fits in the slot for "m". Is this unsolvable?
My most current attempt at a solution:
%288%29%2F%282m%2B1%29-%285%29%2F%282m%2B1%29=%281%29%2F%28m-2%29 by adding %281%29%2F%28m-2%29 to the left side and subtracting %285%29%2F%282m%2B1%29 from the left and adding it to the right side.
This equals %283%29%2F%282m%2B1%29=%281%29%2F%28m-2%29
I then tried multiplying each side by (m-2) which brought me to
%283m-6%29%2B%282m%2B1%29%28m-2%29=1
and broken down even further, this comes to
3m-6%2B%282m%5E2-4m%2Bm-2%29=1
which breaks down to
3m%2Bm-4m=0m and -6-2=-8 with 2m%5E2 left to fend for himself.
all that makes 2m%5E2-8=1
so I added the -8 to each side and got
2m%5E2=9
Now I'm not sure what to do (if I've even been doing it right so far)
Do I divide each side by 2 to break up the 2m%5E2 or am I already too far gone?
I could try moving the 9 back over to the left side and trying a quadratic formula, but these numbers just don't look right together. The last three problems were unsolvable, which leaves me questioning whether or not this one is, too, and if not, was I wrong on all of the other ones??
Any suggestions on what I should change or how to fix whatever I'm doing wrong?
Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Question 288386: Can't find any lesson that explains solving equations containing a rational exponent on the variable.
Here's my problem: (there are lessons for more in-depth problems, but I need to learn the simple stuff before moving on to the more complicated stuff)
%28x%29%5E%284%2F3%29=81 (x to the 4/3 power=81)
I used
%28x%29%5E%284%2F3%29=81
%282x%29%5E%281%2F3%29=81
%282x%29%5E%282%2F3%29%29%5E%281%2F3%29=81%5E%282%2F3%29
which made
3x=%2881%29%5E%282%2F3%29
and then divided by 3, so
x=%2827%29%5E%281%2F3%29
Does this look right?
I didn't think I was supposed to have any power left afterwards.

Question 288376: I need to solve this radical equation using the power principle.
Problem: sqrt%28x%2B7%29-2=sqrt%28x-9%29
I can work the other problems pretty easily, but they all have numbers before the x (ie sqrt%282x-9%29, so I can understand them a little better.
This one is throwing me for a loop.
I tried,
sqrt%28x%2B7%29=2%2Bsqrt%28x-9%29
and got
%28sqrt%28x%2B7%29%29%5E2=%282%2Bsqrt%28x-9%29%29%5E2
which gave me
x%2B7=%284%2B2sqrt%28x-9%29%2B%28x-9%29%29
so I moved the x%2B9 to the right side and came up with
0x-2=4%2B2sqrt%28x-9%29
then i subtracted the 4 from the right and moved it to the left to isolate my final radical and got
%28-2%29%2B%28-4%29=2sqrt%28x-9%29
which came to -6=2sqrt%28x-9%29
and then i squared each side again
%28-6%29%5E2=%282sqrt%28x-9%29%29%5E2
and got 26=4x-36
which is 1476-4x=0
Since there is no x%5E2 or a simple 2x or something, I can't seem to figure out how I would do this problem. Either I messed up the steps somewhere or this problem is unsolvable. I'm pretty sure I just confused a step or missed one all together.
Please help? This is due on Tuesday and I still have another 34 problems (out of 118) left. Almost done!!
