If the pants have an average operating cost of $15 then $10 is the cost of manufacturing the slacks and $5 is the pants' share of the fixed costs. If each pair of slacks contributes $5 towards the operating costs then there were 30 000/5 pairs of slacks made ie 6000 pairs of slacks.
