1. Find the LCM of the denominators 8, 5, 20:

8: 8, 16, 24, 32, 40

5: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40

20: 20, 40

Therefore, 40 is the LCM.

2. Multiply each fraction of the equation by 40, which will give us:

15 + 32 = 2x

3. Add 15 and 32, giving us:

47 = 2x

4. Divide both sides by 2, giving us:

47/2 = x ----->

23.5 = x

You should be able to use either 47/2 or 23.5 or 23 1/2 as your answer, unless you are told you can only use one of the three.
