Question 944715: My online assignment is asking me this:
Now factor the trinomial: u2 - 29u + 100, and then substitute u = x2.
u2 − 29u + 100 = (u-4)(u − 25)
"Correct: Your answer is correct" it is telling me,
Now it has another answer box there wanting me to substitute I am assuming? In which case I thought i was doing it right, but apparently not because it will not accept any answer I give. I cannot move on until I get this one.
TIA.

well they made u = x^2, so

u^2 - 29u + 100 = (u - 4)(u - 25) = (x^2 - 4)(x^2 - 25)

-------------------------------------------------------

you now have (x^2 - 4)(x^2 - 25)

you factor each x^2 - 4 and x^2 - 25 using the difference of squares rule. You will have 4 factors when everything is said and done. I'll let you do this part.
