(2r - 3s) (4r²+ 6rs +9s²)

Vertical is no different than horizontal; in either case you must
multiply each term of one of the factors by each term of the other factor:
then simplify the results.
------------multiply in the vertical method
(2r - 3s) (4r²+ 6rs +9s²)
= (2r)(4r²+ 6rs +9s²) -3s(4r²+ 6rs +9s²)
= 8r^3+12r^2s+18rs^2-12r^2s-18rs^2-27s^3
= 8r^3-6rs^2+6rs^2-27s^3
