: an explosion causes debris to rise vertically with an initial speed of 72 feet per second the formula h=-16t^2+72t
describes the height of the debris above the ground,h,in feet,t seconds after the explosion.
How long will it take for the debris to hit the ground?
Can you tell me how to set up the equation to solve the question above

Answer by scott8148(6628)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the debris hits the ground when h=0 ... since the debris starts at h=0, there are two solutions to the equation 0=-16t^2+72t

the "trivial" (a technical term for obvious) solution is 0 ... you want the other solution
