Question 88281: How do I find the x,y intercepts of an equation after completing the square?
Answer by rapaljer(4671) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I may be misunderstanding your question, but when you are solving an EQUATION, you usually have a single variable, like . You can find roots or solutions of the equation (in this case, it would be x=2 or x=-2) by equation solving methods.
However, to have x and y intercepts, you must have TWO variables (TWO dimensions!). This would be like . In order to find the x intercepts, you let y = 0, and find x--in this case it would be (0,2) and (0,-2). You can find the y-intercepts by letting x=0, and find y--in this case, it would be (0,-4). I'm not sure how completing the square fits into this question.
