x-√(17-4x)=3

x-3 = √(17-4x)   |Squaring both sides

(x-3)^2 = 17 - 4x

x^2 - 6x + 9 = 17 - 4x

x^2 - 2x - 8 = 0

(x-4)(x+2) = 0.  x = -2,  4
