Question 83737: Find each of the following squares:
(a)(7p+6q)^2
(b)(w-1/4)^2
How do I do this?

Answer by lekelly(20)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a) use the foil method: first, outers, inners, lasts-multiplying accordingly
(7p+6q)(7p+6q)
first: 7p*7p=49p^2
outers: 7p*6q=42pq
inners: 7p*6q=42pq
lasts: 6q*6q=36q^2
put it all together: 49p^2+42pq+42pq+36q^2
simplify: 49p^2+84pq+36q^2 YOUR ANSWER
b) use the same methodology, but be careful of your signs:
(w-1/4)(w-1/4)
first: w*w=w^2
outers: -1/4*w=-1/4w
inners: -1/4*w=-1/4w
lasts: -1/4*-1/4=-1/16
put it all together: w^2-1/4w-1/4w-1/16
simplify: w^2-1/2w-1/16 YOUR ANSWER
