Question 831205: Which term prevents the following expression from being considered polynomial?
F(x)= 1/2x^4 - 5x^3 - √7x^2 + 1.4/x + 21
A. -5x^-3
B.1/2x^4
C.- √7x^2
D. 21
E. 1.4/x

Answer by Edwin McCravy(20060)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
F(x)= 1/2x^4 - 5x^3 - √7x^2 + 1.4/x + 21
 A. -5x^-3 <--- There's no such term as that in this polynomial.
 B.1/2x^4 <--- That's OK, a number times a whole number power of x
 C.- √7x^2 <--- That's OK, a number times a whole number power of x
 D. 21 <--- That's OK, a number times a whole number power of x, the same as 21x0, and 0 is a whole number.
 E. 1.4/x <--- That's IT! Polynomials can't have a variable in the denominator
