Question 79610: Hi, please help! The problem is:
Complete the following:
10p^2 - pq - 3q^2 = (5p - 3q)(?)
I have no idea what that question mark is there for, or what it's asking me to do on this problem. Thanks for your help.

Answer by chitra(359)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The given expression is:

= (5p - 3q)(?)

Here the question mark indicates we are supposed to fill in the other term which when multiplied gives the term on the left hand side.

So inorder to fill in that term, we faactorize the term which is given on the left hand side.

The factorization goes this way.

==>

==>

Taking out the common terms, we get:

==> (2p - q)(5p - 3q)

Comparing these two terms with the right hans terms, we find that there is only term present that is(5p - 3q) and the term that is missing is: (2p - q)

Hence, in place of the question mark, just write the term (2p - q)

Thus, the solution.
