Question 776879: How would I solve for 4y^2+4y+5=0 by completing the square? I would really appreciate it if you could help me out. Thanks
Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
solve for 4y^2+4y+5=0 by completing the square
---------------
4y^2 + 4y = -5
4(y^2+y+1) = -5+4*1
-----
4(y+1)^2 = -1
----
(y+1)^2 = -1/4
------
y+1 = (1/2)i or y+1 = (-1/2)i
------
y = -1 + (1/2)i or y = -1-(1/2)i
