You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The best thing to do is to convert the mixed numbers first to improper fractions. The procedure is: take denominator, multiply it with the whole number, then add the numerator to what you've got. Put this answer you've got in the numerator, and copy the denominator you had originally. BE CAREFUL, though, of the negative sign. You must ignore it at first.
So, 4(denominator) * 3(whole number, ignore the - sign. you'll put it back later) gives you 12, then add the 1(numerator), giving you 13. Now 13 becomes your new denominator, and put it above the 4 (the denominator you started with) so that you'll get 13/4. Don't forget the - sign: -13/4 would be your first fraction. Do this to the other fraction, the 2 1/2 and you should get 5/2.

So you're actually computing +%28-13%2F4%29+%2A+%285%2F2%29+ You should get -65%2F8+. If you turn that into a fraction, you should get the -8 1/8.
