Question 767151: Im having problems with this question on a review before a test.
Given x=5 is a zero of the function f(x)=x^3-2x^2-13x-10 write the complete factored for of f(x.
so I have done
f(x)=x^3-2x^2-13x-10
f(x)=(x-5)
z-5/x^2-2x^2-13x-10= x^2+3x-12
not sure if this is right just want to make sure my foundation is correct. Thank you

Answer by lwsshak3(11628)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Given x=5 is a zero of the function f(x)=x^3-2x^2-13x-10 write the complete factored form of f(x.
***
divide f(x) by 5 using long division or synthetic division
using synthetic division:
...5...|.....1....-2....-13....-10.........
........|.............5......15.....10
........|.....1......3.......2.......0.
f(x)=(x-5)(x^2+3x+2)
f(x)=(x-5)(x+2)(x+1)
It seems you did not divide correctly.
