Question 76304: Please help me to solve this equation using the zero-factor property.
5x^2+12=23x

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
5x^2+12=23x
5x^2-23x+12=0
ac=60 and b=-23
Two numbers whose product is 60 and whose sum is -23 are -20 and -3.
Rewrite the problem replacing the -23x with -20x and -3x.
5x^2-20x-3x+12=0
Factor the fist two and the last two terms separately, as follows:
5x(x-4)-3(x-4)=0
Factor out the common factor to get:
(x-4)(5x-3)=0
One of the two factors must be zero.
If x-4=0, x=4
If 5x-3=0, x=3/5
Solution: x=4 or x=3/5
