If you're supposed to factor, this is one way to do it:
4x^2-4xy-3y^2
Replace the middle coefficient with two coefficients that multiply to give you:a*c=4*-3=-12
but add to give you b=-4
-6*2=-12 and -6+2=-4
4x^2-6xy+2xy-3y^2 factor by grouping
2x(2x-3y)+y(2x-3y)
(2x+y)(2x-3y)
