Question 736484: Hi,
I am having a hard time understanding factoring by grouping. My instructor gave me this problem:
s^2 + 2s + 4s + 8
I managed to break it down thus far
(s*s+s+s)+(s+s+s+s+8)
And now I am stuck. I am I going about this wrong?

Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
s^2 + 2s + 4s + 8
Group
(s^2 + 2s) + (4s + 8)
factor out s and 4, resulting in:
s(s + 2) + 4(s + 2)
Factor out (s+2), leaving
(s + 2)(s + 4)
