Question 735737: How do find the factor of x^2-x-20?
Answer by blwinbbbles(106) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
you find the factor by starting with factors of 20..
so you can have 1x20, 2x10, 4x5, of these pairs would be most likely to produce a -x...my guess would be 4 and 5...since it is a -20 in the equation then there need to be one neg number and one positive number.
so I would start with:
(x-5)(x+4) this will equal
x^2 + 4x - 5x - 20 combine like terms
x^2 - x - 20
so the factors are:
(x-5) and (x + 4)
