Question 659682: I have a question that says.....find a polynominal for the sum of the area of three circles..the radius for the smallest circle is 8......the radius for the medium circle is 14......the large circle is r....I am lost and really need some help..I look at the book and it might as well be in german...please show me how to do this problem..I do want the answer but I would like to see the work that gets the answer also....thanks so much to anybody that can help..take care
Answer by DrBeeee(684) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I can't read german, but maybe I can help.
First you need the formula for the area of a circle;
(1) A = pi*r^2, where r is the radius of the circle.
You have three cicles whose areas are
(2) A1 = pi*8^2
(3) A2 = pi*14^2
(4) A3 = pi*r^2
The problem is to find the sum of these three circles so add them up as
(5) Atotal = pi*(64 + 196 + r^2) or
(6) Atotal = pi*(260 + r^2)
This is the so called polynomial.
Answer: The polynomial is pi*r^2 + 260*pi.
