To solve the equation for x, you must rearrange the equation so that the x is the only term on one side of the equation. To do that, you do some operation to each side of the equation. If you do the same thing to each side of the equation, then both sides are still equal and it is still an equation.
For X + 11 = 26, I want to get the 11 away from the x. If I subtract 11 (or add a-11) from both sides, that will work. I know that because I am using the additive inverse of 11 which is -11, they will add to zero and x+0 is just x.
X + 11 = 26
X + 11 + -11 = 26 + -11
X + 0= 15
X = 15
Substitute 15 back into the original equation to make sure that it is a correct solution.
