If a=0 then the graph will be a straight line on the x axis.
If a is between 0 and 1 then the graph will be between the x axis and the original graph.
If a>1 then the graph will be steeper than the original one.
If a=-1 then a mirror image about the x axis will result.
If a is between 0 and -1 the the graph will be between the x axis and a mirror image of the original graph.
If a<-1 then the graph will be steeper than a mirror image of the original one.
