Question 636628: Hello! I need help with factoring 6x^4+17x^2+12 trinomial
I know this is a trinomial and what I tried to do is 6*12=72
8*9=72
8+9=17
So I replaced numbers in the equation
(6x^4+9x^2)+(8x^2+12)
factored
3x^2(2x^2+3) 4(2x^2+3)
So I got
(3x^2+4)(2x^2+3)
But when I check my answer it says the answer should be (3+2x^2)(4+3x^2).
I don't know where I'm going wrong. I hope this is the right section, it's my first time trying this site. Thanks!

Answer by nerdybill(7384) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Your answer is correct:
(3x^2+4)(2x^2+3)
I can rewrite the above as:
(2x^2+3)(3x^2+4) (multiplication is commutative)
(3+2x^2)(4+3x^2) (addition is commutative)
this gives you what the book had.

Your answer is indeed correct.
It doesn't matter if You write 5+4 or 4+5 the answer is the same regardless so in your case 2x^2+3 is really the same as 3+2x^2.
