Hi. I don't understand polynomial long division. Could someone help me? I would really appreciate it. Thanks again. Rae
-4x^3 + 24x^2 - 24x + 4 by x^2 -5x + 1
....
........................-4x.............4
....x^2-5x+1|..-4x^3...24x^2...-24x...4
.......................-4x^3...20x^2...-4x
....................................4x^2....-20x
....................................4x^2....-20x...4
................................................. 0......0
...
dividend: -4x^3+24x^2-24x+4
divisor: x^2-5x+1
quotient: -4x+4
remainder:0
dividend=quotient*divisor+remainder
note: write dividend and divisor in descending order. Insert zeros for missing powers.
Algebraic long division is the same method used for arithmetic long division you learned in the 4th grade or earlier.
hope this helps
