Question 6023: i want to ask what is the answer of the following;
1.4y-{13x-(14y-2x}
2.5y-{18x-(5y+12x}
3.-{8x-[14y-(5-6x)-2]}
4.-4(x-3y)-(3x+5y)-(6-8y)

Answer by Abbey(339)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1.4y-{13x-(14y-2x}
clear the parentheses by distributing the negative signs:
4y-{13x-14y+2x}
4y-13x+14y-2x}
then combine like terms
18y-15x

2.5y-{18x-(5y+12x}
clear the parentheses by distributing the negative signs (multiply by -1):
5y-{18x-5y-12x}
5y-18x+5y+12x}
then combine like terms
-6x
3.-{8x-[14y-(5-6x)-2]}
clear the parentheses by distributing the negative signs (multiply by -1):
-{8x-[14y-5+6x-2]}
-{8x-14y+5-6x+2}
-8x+14y-5+6x-2
then combine like terms
-2x+14y-7
4.-4(x-3y)-(3x+5y)-(6-8y)
clear the parentheses by distributing the negative signs (multiply by -1 except for the first set of parenthese, on this one, multiply by -4):
-4x+12y-3x-5y-6+8y
then combine like terms:
-7x+15y-6
