1. Essay: Show all work. Find the following quotient:
64x^2 – 100 y^2
_______________
8x + 10y
2. Short Answer. The length of the side of a rectangular desk is given by 2x - 6y cm. The length of the front is given by 2x + 6y cm. What is an algebraic expression for the area of the top of the rectangular desk? Include correct units as part of your answer.

Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(64x^2–100x^2)/(8x+10y)
You should recognize the numerator as the "difference of squares"; can be factored to:

Cancel out (8x+10y) leaving
8x-10y
:
2. Short Answer. The length of the side of a rectangular desk is given by 2x - 6y cm. The length of the front is given by 2x + 6y cm. What is an algebraic expression for the area of the top of the rectangular desk? Include correct units as part of your answer.
:
A = L * W
A = (2x-6y)*(2x+6y)
FOIL
A = 4x^2 + 12xy - 12xy - 36y^2
A = 4x^2 - 36y^2 sq/cm
