Yes. An easy way to check that is to take the inside part of the square root in the quadratic equation b^2-4ac, and if it's negative, there is no x intercept.
a=1, b=-2, and c=4
(-2)^2-4(1)(4)
4-16
-12 <---no x-intercept.
