Question 579392: 3n^4-33n^2+30 is the problem I have to factor. This is the way I did it.
3n^4-33n^2+30
3n^2-11n+10
(3n-5)(n-2)
3n^4-11n^2+10
(3n^2-5)(n^2-2)
3n^2*1n^2=3b^4
I don't know what I did wrong. My answer is suppose to be 3(n-1)(n+1)(n^2-10)
Can you please help me

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
3n^4-33n^2+30
----
3n^4-30n^2-3n^2+30
-----
Factor:
3n^2(n^2-10)-3(n^2-10)
-----
Factor:
(n^2-10)(3n^2-3)
----
= (n-sqrt(10))(n+sqrt(10))(3(n^2-1))
-----
= (n-sqrt(10))(n+sqrt(10))(3(n^2-1))
----
= (n-sqrt(10))(n+sqrt(10))(3(n-1)(n+1)
----
Rearrange any way you wish.
Cheers,
Stan H.
