Question 564019: divide and simplify z^2-49/z divided by z+7/z+1. I started this problem by multiplying the first equation by the reciprical of the second equation. I came up with the answer z^3+z^2-49z-49/z(z+7) I'm not sure that I did this correctly.
Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
[(z^2-49)/z] / [(z+7)/(z+1)]
----
Factor:
[(z-7)(z+7)/z] / [(z+7)/(z+1)]
----
Invert the denominator and multiply:
= [(z-7)(z+7)/z] * [(z+1)/(z+7)]
----------
Cancel the (z+7) common to numerator and denominator to get:
---
(z-7)/z *(z+1)/1
----
= (z^2-6z-7)/z
