Question 549748: The base of a triangle is 3cm greater than the height. The area is 14cm^2. Find the height & length of the base
Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
height = x cm
base = x+3
Area of triangle = 1/2 * base * height
1/2 * x(x+3)=14
multiply by 2
x^2+3x=28
x^2+3x-28=0
x^2+7x-4x-28=0
x(x+7)-4(x+7)=0
(x+7)(x-4)=0
x=4 which is positive
height = 4
base = 4+3 =7
