Question 54050: Please Solve Rational Expression
1/(x+1) + 1/2 = 2/(x^2 - 1)
THANK YOU!

Answer by anjulasahay(30)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1/(x+1) + 1/2 = 2/(x^2 - 1)
(2+(x+1))/2(x+1)=2/(x+1)*(x-1)
or x+3=4/(x-1)
or (x+3)*(x-1)=4
or x^2+2x-3=4
or x^2+2x-7=0
It is a quadratic eq. hence x = (-2-+sqrt(4-4*(-7)))/2
= (-2+-sqrt(32))/2
=-1+-sqrt(8)
=(-1+sqrt(8)) or (-1-sqrt(8))
