Question 526669: For the following pair, find the LCD. then write each fraction as a pair of fractions with the LCD as their denominator.
x/x+7 and x/x-7
I determined the LCD as (x+7)(x-7)
i then multiplied the 1st fraction by (x-7) and arrived at x(x-7)/(x=7)(x-7)
I multiplied the second fraction by (x+7) and arrived with x(x+7)/(x-7)(x+7)
but the text book states that the answer is :
(x+7)(x-7) ; x^2 - 5x / (x+7)(x-5) , x^2 + 7x / (x+7)(x-5)
I can't figure out where the "5" came from ??

I'd say your book has a typographical error in it.
Look for a page or handout that is entitled "Errata".
