Question 515271: Hello I am Suzy. I have a problem that I cannot figure out. It is an algebra word problem and I am really confused. Heres the problem.
Hat sizes are determined by measuring the circumfrence of one's head in wither inches or centimeters. Use ratio and porportion to comlete the following table:
Hat size Head Circumfrence (nearest 1/5in) Head Circumfrence (nearest centimeter)
7 3/8 23 1/5 59
7 1/4 __?____ ___?____

Please help I am so confused. I have tried to break the first set of sizes down into fraction with the same denominator and finding the difference and then applying that difference to the lower numbers but I am not getting the correct answers.

7 3/8----------23 1/5-------------59
7 1/4----------xxxxxx-------------yyyy
7 3/8 = 59/8
7 1/4 = 29/4
(59/8)/ (29/4)
59/8 * 4/29
59/58
59/58* (116/5)/x
x= (116/5 )/ (59/58)
x=22 4/5
...
59/58 = 59/x
x=58
7 1/4----------22 4/5-------------58
