Question 498968: Factor by grouping: 24c^3 + 116c^2 - 168c. Here is what I have done so far: The equation is in the correct order and the GCF of all 3 numbers is 4c so I get: 4c(6c^2 + 29c - 42) Now this is where I'm stuck...
6c^2 + 29c - 42 = (3c + __)(2c - __)
Now I use the F.O.I.L method to check my problem and it won't equal:
3c * 2c = 6c^2
-7 * 6 = -42
but the rest won't give me the 29c, it gives me 4c. So I think I missed something and can't figure it out! Think I missed something in the beginning but really feel I didn't???? Please Help! Thank you!

What you missed was 6=3*2 is not forced.
I'll let you take it from there.
