Question 489194: i am having trouble with which properties to use first in equations like:
21-(2+4x)=23-6x
I would normal add (2+4x) to each side leaving 21=23-6x+(2+4x) but then i get lost there? im not sure if i distribute the -6x with the numbers in perenthese or if i add 23 and 2 and add 6x with 4x??
Answer by chessace(471) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Do not distribute the 6x because it is attached with a +, not a *.
Just drop the (), add -6x + 4x.
Yes just add 23+2 as well.
You could also choose to drop the () as the 1st step - be careful to distribute the -1 * everything inside the () as part of this process.
