Question 484441: This is a linear equation, I'm not sure if I'm in the right section, but here is what I am having trouble with:
n-3/2n-2 = 1/5 - n-5/8n-8
I thought I would try using the LCD, and I got the LCD to be 40(n-1). My answer that I got for that was 27/17, but I was informed that that was wrong.

Answer by chessace(471)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
n-3/2n-2 = 1/5 - n-5/8n-8
I assume () are implied as
(n-3)/(2n-2) = .2 - (n-5)/(8n-8)
*8: (4n-12)/(n-1) = 1.6 - (n-5)/(n-1)
(4n-12 + n-5)/(n-1) = 1.6
(5n-17) = 1.6(n-1) if n isn't 1 (that linear assumption helps)
3.4n = 15.4
*5: 17n=77
n=77/17
