Question 468476: solve (x-1)/(x+9)=2/5
Answer by algebrahouse.com(1659)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
This is a proportion, to solve, just cross-multiply.

(x - 1)/(x + 9) = 2/5
5(x - 1) = 2(x + 9) {cross-multiplied}
5x - 5 = 2x + 18 {used distributive property}
5x = 2x + 23 {added 5 to both sides}
3x = 23 {subtracted 2x from both sides}
x = 23/3 {divided both sides by 3}
