Each figure represents a real number and no denominators are 0. Choose the correct statement and briefly explain why the others are not correct.
a) (Ο/Δ)+(Ω/Ο)=(Ο+Ω)/(ΔΟ)
b) (Ο/Δ)+(Ω/Ο)=(Ο+Ω)/(Δ+Ο)
c) (Ο/Δ)+(Ω/Ο)=(ΟΟ+ΩΔ)/(ΔΟ)
The correct answers should be counterexamples, not just "it has the
wrong denominator":
a) (Ο/Δ)+(Ω/Ο)=(Ο+Ω)/(ΔΟ)
is not correct because
(4/1)+(8/4)=(4+8)/(1*4)
4 + 2 = 12/4
6 = 3
which is false, and so we have a counterexample.
b) (Ο/Δ)+(Ω/Ο)=(Ο+Ω)/(Δ+Ο)
is not correct because
(6/3)+(12/6)=(6+12)/(3+6)
2 + 2 = 18/9
4 = 2
which is false, and so we have a counterexample
c) is correct
