there are many methods to solve this problem...
I would use the method of factorization
I would find two numbers whose sum is 7 and product is 6
such two numbers are 1 and 6 (coz, 1+6 = 7 and 1*6 = 6)
Now i would split the middle term with these numbers...

=0
=0
= 0
= 0

==> 2x + 1 = 0 or x + 3 = 0

==> 2x = -1 or x = -3
===> or
