As far as I can tell, there are no negative exponents to begin with.

If there were some negative exponents, I would suggest:
  1. Simplify as much as possible, without worrying about negative exponents.
  2. If your simplified expression has negative exponents (Sometimes the negative exponents disappear during step 1), then replace each expression that has a negative exponent with it reciprocal. (In general )
