-2x + 4y = -36

Divide thru the 2nd equation by 2:
x + 9y = -26
-x + 2y = -18
---------------------
Add to get:
11y = -44
y = -4
---
Solve for "x":
x + 9y = -26
x -36 = -26
x = 10
