Question 407891: How do you divide 5x + 6x³ - 8 divide by x - 2
Answer by Edwin McCravy(20060)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

5x + 6x³ - 8 divided by x - 2

Write 5x + 6x³ - 8 in descending order

6x³ + 5x - 8

Insert "+ 0x²" as a placeholder for a term in x²

6x³ + 0x² + 5x - 8

You can either use long division or synthetic division:

Long division:

             6x² + 12x + 29 +
x - 2)6x³ + 0x² + 5x - 8
      6x³ - 12x²
            12x² + 5x
            12x² - 24x
                   29x - 8
                   29x - 58
                         50
Or by synthetic division:

    2| 6 0 5 -8
     | 12 24 58
       6 12 29 50

   6x² + 12x + 29 +
