Question 40727: can someone TEACH me how to find a boundry of a line??????(step by step)
for example--- Y>/ x+3
y>/ -x+1
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Y>/ x+3
I'm not sure what your "/" sign means.
Let's say you want to graph y>x+3
The boundary line is the graph of y=x+3.
So, you plot a couple of points such as
(0,3) and (5,8).
Then you draw a DASHED LINE through those
points. That is your boundary line.
Now you need to determine which side of the
boundary line is the solution set for the
inequality.
So you pick a point that is not on the line,
such as (0,0)
You check that point in the origiinal inequlity, as follows:
Substituting (0,0) into y>x+3 you get 0>0+3
or 0>3.
That is not true so you know the side containing (0,0)
is NOT the solution. The other side is the solution
so you shade that side.

Stan H.
