x^3y + 2x^2y^2 + xy^2
Look at the "x's" in each term.
x^3 in the 1st terms
x^2 in the 2nd term
x in the 3rd term
The CF is x; there is no common x^2 or any common x^3.
Now, look at the "y's" in each term.
y in the 1st term
y^2 in the 2nd term
y^2 in the 3rd term
The CF is y; there is no common y^2 in all the terms.
So the CF for your problem is xy
Therefore you get:
xy(x^2+2xy+y)
